Learning food safe is a must in Canada, especially if you work in food service. However, training programs for safe food handling are not exclusive to people in the food business – because, technically, everybody handles food. In our day to day lives, we either cook food for ourselves or for our family. Safe food handling should be a part of every household, not just every food business.
Food Safe training is offered by different providers in Canada, but not all of them have great quality training available at affordable rates. Look no further! Red Deer First Aid is one of the best providers of safe food handling training in the country. We offer the lowest prices and different means of training including on-line courses.
On-Line Versus Classroom Courses
We offer two different Alberta Food Safety approved courses. The following is a description of both:
On-line courses: We offer self-paced on-line courses that are divided into multiple modules. Participants must complete a module (with a quiz) prior to moving to the next module. Once all modules are completed participants must come to one our training centres and complete the written exam with a minimum score of 70%. The on-line program is offered through this website at takes approximately 10 hours to complete. Click here for more information or to register for an on-line course.
In-class courses: We also offer in-class courses to participants that would like to attend training at one of our facilities. The course takes 8 hours to complete and participants will have to complete a multiple choice test with a minimum score of 70% to successfully complete the course and get certified. Scroll to the bottom of the page to view available course dates, times and locations.
Getting Your Certificate
All food safe courses at Red Deer First Aid offer certification. The student simply needs to have complete attendance and at least 70 percent on the final exam to be awarded one.
Note: Food Safe certificates from Red Deer First Aid (and all over Canada) have a validity period of five years. Certified food handlers are required to attend refresher classes and pass another certification exam every five years. You can sign up for refresher course earlier if you want to.
The Importance of Keeping Food Safe
Food is a substance the supplies the body with needed nutrients and energy to function. Despite being a source of everything the body needs to survive, food can also be the source of disease. When food is contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms and substances (like chemicals), it can cause Foodborne Illness to spread among consumers. Foodborne Illness is not just one disease; it’s a category for diseases that have to do with the ingestion of contaminated food.
Refunds and Transfers
We do not accept refunds or transfers within 72 hours of the course. Refunds and transfers are not accepted for the on-line course.
