Leg cramps are defined as contractions that arise involuntarily in the muscles of the thigh, calf or feet. Commonly used remedies for leg cramps
- Exercise – once leg cramps occur, the individual must get up, move and gently stretch the tight muscle. If the calf muscle tightens, the leg must be extended and gently flex the foot backwards to the shin. Take note that continued stretching can lengthen and loosen the muscle which prevents the leg cramps from recurring.
- Application of heat and cold – massage or applying an ice pack on the affected area can lessen the pain and allow the muscle to relax. In case the leg cramps are persistent, immerse the site in warm bath water or take a warm shower to relax and loosen the affected muscle.

There are cases in which acupressure is utilized to provide relief to the leg cramps. It is important to note that this technique is commonly used by athletes. By applying pressure on the pressure point, it can help lessen the length and seriousness of the leg cramps.
