Eyestrain is defined as painful or tired eyes. It is a usual complaint among those who engage in prolonged reading or computer work.
What is the cause?
Some of the usual causes of eyestrain include:
- Visual issues in which the individual sees distant objects clearly, but close objects are blurred.
- Performing one task for long periods without a break such as computer work, reading or driving.
- Workstation is not correctly configured. The common issues include a computer screen that is in the wrong position, poor lighting or the glare from the computer screen.
- Dry eyes from lack of blinking adequately
What are the signs?
The usual indications of eyestrain include:
- Blurred vision
- Tired or painful eyes
- Watery eyes
- Urge to squint or close the eyes
If the individual requires reading glasses and reads for long periods of time without glasses or with glasses that are weak, headache might arise near the eyes or at the back part of the neck.
There are also some eye diseases that can trigger a headache with eye pain. In addition, inflammation or high eye pressure in the eye can lead to headaches with eyestrain.
Management of eyestrain
