The safety measures implemented to curb down the spread of COVID-19 such as wearing masks are not required for children. Some Ottawa parents share that it was a mistake for Ottawa’s public school board to vote against a motion to make face masks mandatory for young students.
The Ottawa Carleton District School Board trustees voted eight to four against a motion to make face masks mandatory for all Kindergarten to Grade 3 students. The wearing of face masks is mandatory for students in Grade 4 to Grade 12.
The OCDSB trustees voted against the motion, eight to four, to make face masks mandatory. The trustees voted against the motion noted Ottawa Public Health has not recommended face masks for younger students in school.
For one trustee, making face masks mandatory would be a difficult task for teachers to monitor.
